CASE STUDY: EXHAUST MANIFOLD
Field of Application: Production
THE PROJECT
The creation of a new race car is a very exciting time. But prior to investing in production process, many parts are crafted by skilled technicians who are best qualified for mockup stage.
The challenge: The complexity of an exhaust manifold proved to be very challenging when our client needed to engage the production.
OUR SOLUTION
We digitalised the original part using a 0.025mm precision laser scanner.
The digital model was post-treated first using a geometric analysis software, then a CAD Software. The resulting CAD model was overlayed to the digital scanned model for comparison.
Once the result was satisfactory, the CAD model in STP/IGS format was used to reproduce the part.

Technical information:

0.025 mm precision scan
STP or IGS export format
Significantly optimized file size
STEP 1
The object is prepared for scanning by putting targets that the scanner will use as a reference.
STEP 2
We capture, accurately, the whole geometry within minutes.

STEP 3
Remodelling using CAD Software.

The post treatment software provides the exact centerline of the 4 tubes and their diameters.
Tube Geometry Quality Check
Below you see an overlay of CAD to Scan. Green represents the matching geometry of the tubes (within 0.1 mm).
