CASE STUDY: PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
Field of Application: Automotive
WATER PUMP HOUSING
Our Client needed to investigate the water flow inside this water pump housing. The only option was to get a translucent version of the original part (Model displayed on the right).
The Problem: The CAD model could not be provided by the pump manufacturer.
OUR SOLUTION
We digitalised the original part using a 0.025mm precision laser scanner.
The digital model was post-treated first using a geometric analysis software, then a CAD Software. The resulting CAD model was overlayed to the digital scanned model for comparison.
Once the result was satisfactory, the CAD model in STP/IGS format was used to produce a translucent part, enabling our client to perform the analysis as needed.
Technical information:

0.025 mm precision scan
STP or IGS export format
Significantly optimized file size
STEP 1
Digitalisation
The physical model was scanned to the highest precision.

STEP 2
Model Reconstruction
Geometric analysis software provided the reference elements (Point, line, surface, cylinders etc ...), necessary to rebuild precisely the CAD Model.
See here the final rendering created with the software, making the model look like the real part.

STEP 3
Quality Check
CAD and Scan model were overlayed.
The tolerance was set to 0.1 mm.
The green surface shows that CAD model was within the tolerance, from the real model.
In reality, it was much more precise: Within 0.01 mm.

STEP 4
Production from CAD Model
The translucent model was machined from plastic material.
The precision of the data allowed the reproduced part to be extremely close to the original model, which was essential for a conclusive analysis result.
