3D SCANNING
We digitalize real objects.
3D SCANNING
Whether your goal is to capture an environment, recreate a model or create a production model from a prototype: We provide you with the exact 3D model of almost any physical object.
THE PROCESS OF 3D SCANNING
From the size of a coin (15 mm) to a complete car (over 4m) - the possibilities are endless! Learn more about the 3D scanning process below or view our case studies to see some application examples.
The process of scanning follows three steps that are paramount for the quality of the final result.
STEP 1: PREPARATION
The Path to Success
Depending on the required precision you need, we create a geometric referential, by placing targets the scanner refers to. Also we prepare upfront the specific topology to be used for referencing your item in 3D, for CAD use. Should you need a geometry of translucent objects, e.g. a window, we treat the translucent surface and prepare it for scanning.
STEP 2: SCANNING
We can capture the geometry with any texture (matte, shiny). The scanning accuracy varies between 0.025 to 0.05 mm depending on the scanner we use for your job. We provide resolution from 0.1mm. And we can scan indoor and outdoor.
STEP 3: DATA
The result is a cloud of points that can be exported as a STL format. We take care of cleaning the data and prepare them so you receive reasonable file sizes. We can also, on request, process with extraction of points, curves, surfaces, you would be able to use directly in your CAD system and prepare your data for reverse engineering, another service by Mapeex.
FIELDS OF APPLICATION
There are many fields of application for our services. Onsite work is possible, we mainly operate in the UK and Europe.
CUSTOMISATION OF PARTS
We customize parts exactly to your needs.
CAPTURE VOLUME FOR INTEGRATION
Masterise your environmental constraints.
GET ACCURATE DIMENSIONS
Know your part is fit for purpose.
PARTS REPRODUCTION
Finding replacemant parts that are no longer manufactured can be extremely difficult. We can help out by recreating and reproducing and even improving the part just as you need it. More info in our case study.
DIGITALIZATION OF COMPLEX PARTS
We digitalise complex shapes of almost all sizes and surfaces, e.g.body panels, curved glass shapes or parts as tiny as a 1ct coin. More info in our case studies.
STRENGTHEN PART BUT KEEP THE DESIGN
Identical aspect, improved strength.
CONFORMITY
In Motorsport, make sure your model is compliant and fits within the FIA regulation geometric volume.
AERO ANALYSIS
Currently the most cost effective solution to tune performance. More info in our Aero Analysis case study.
